Meet the Makers: Colton
Above all else, we are craftspeople. We enjoy the act of creating/taking raw materials and transforming them into something useful yet beautiful, and built for adventure. Each day our talented team of makers works hard to make gear you can count on. This week we want to introduce Colton Allard, who helps bring our Canvas Wall Tents to life!
These handcrafted Wall Tents are tested in the harshest of elements and through decades of manufacturing, providing substantial shelter for campers year after year. Manufactured with the highest quality materials and triple-reinforced corners, our Canvas Wall Tents are made of a durable, yet breathable, 13-ounce polyester and cotton that is treated for fire retardancy, mildew resistance and water repellency. Thanks to makers like Colton, these handcrafted Wall Tents are also made with passion, creativity, and pride.
Where are you from?
I’m originally from Nashua, NH, but have lived in Hendersonville, NC for most of my life.
How long have you been at Diamond Brand Gear?
I’ve been at Diamond Brand Gear for nearly two years.
Favorite thing about craftsmanship?
I really enjoy being involved with actually making a product, rather than simply selling something someone else made.
Where can we find you when not at work?
Normally at my home desk with a good book and a stack of notes. I’m pretty interested in history and philosophy.
Favorite spot in the Carolina Mountains?
I like the DuPont and Pisgah State Forests. They’ve got a lot of great places to camp and hike. It’s pretty easy for me to go days without seeing another person if I plan ahead.
Favorite brewery/drink in WNC?
Pisgah Brewing makes a mean Schwarzbier, but beyond that I mostly drink imports and PBR.
Favorite memory of the outdoors?
A few years ago, I poorly timed a solo camping trip, and the black bears had started coming out of hibernation. The first night out, I heard some crashing near my tent (read: tarp), and so I grabbed my knife and jumped up and swung my flashlight around with my free hand. About 30ish feet away was a rabbit. I had a chuckle and went back to sleep.
